MARKO BAKOVIC
Marko Baković is an emerging conceptual footwear designer known for his technical and sculptural approach to shoe design. After graduating in Footwear Design at the London College of Fashion, he launched Studio Baković, an Amsterdam based workshop rooted in experimentation, sustainability and avant-garde expression.
Merging experimental techniques and unexpected materials, Studio Bakovič’s is strongly dedicated to pushing the boundaries of shoe construction and reworking footwear archetypes into art objects. Each pair is crafted with intention, meticulous in detail and shaped to stand out with a radical attention to form. Marko Bakovič seeks to explore the relationship between craft and machine, allowing both to merge seamlessly in his collection resulting in technical ingenuity.
Sustainability for Marko Baković is very important, not just as a practice but as an investigation into alternative production systems. The brand approaches the principle of reusing, reclaiming and and repurposing giving a new life to previously owned or faulty materials. Studio Baković rejects the industries norms of mass production and sees their studio as a testing ground for responsibly produced footwear and an experimental space. He believes in challenging the fashion system through sustainable solutions developed on a micro-scale proving that sustainability can coexists without compromising artistry.
Studio Baković delves into the fundamental aspects of shoemaking such as the shape, silhouette and ornament which are refined into a subversive and modern essence. The outcome is unconventional heel shapes, intricate leatherwork and architectural proportions make the Studio Bakovič pieces wearable art instead of functional shoes. Whilst the brand is relatively young and fresh, Studio Bakovič has gained recognition for its innovative approach in blending technology with craftsmanship.
